Thank you Greg for your updates and responses to my letters.
Trinity County has been a big part of my dreams and past. My heart is there and my thanks to the Forest Service and Fire Crews that are working so hard to save that beautiful area.

The two fires we have endured show how little time there is to stop a fire before it gets away. Today, I listened as a reported column of smoke was dealt with just in time with resources that were in the area.

I wonder how technology could play a part in helping to get a fire identified earlier?

Greg,

Greetings from Washington DC where Supervisor Roger Jaegel and I are talking to our legislators re forest health, fuels reduction and the risk associated with not dealing with these issues in an effective manner.

To date I think that close to $30,000,000 (thats 30 million) has been spent fighting these fires. I would hope we can start convincing folks that we might have an easier time putting that kind of money into forest management to lessen the effect of these fires in the future.
Money will be spent one way or the other. WE appreciate the efforts made by our local USFS office they just need more resources, prior to and during fire situations.

If folks log onto INCIWEB you get a much better idea of how spread out the resources are nationally.

I would rather protect the forest by managing the fuels instead of what we have today which is the defacto creation of a desert. We can do better.

Thanks for the updates and the links to Inciweb and be safe out there folks. We're probably looking at smoke until the first real rainstorm.

I'd like to let folks know the importance of working with their local fire safe council. Fire safe councils are designed to help communities like your own make themselves "defensible against wildfire." For more information on starting a project in your neighborhood: The local contacts are Pat Frost or Noreen Doyas at the Trinity County RCD at 623-6004 or e-mail them at info@tcrd.net.

A Forestry specialist from UC has offered to do a workshop for landowners on what to do on their property after a fire. It would be held sometime this fall. Let your firesafe council reps. know if you're interested in something like this.

All of the firefighters and support personnel on this incident truly appreciate your comments of support. We will post them on the boards in fire camp.

Thank you Greg for providing a site for information exchange during this trying time.

I keep checking your Blog to see if rain has occured there in Trinity County.

The Fires:
I think everyone is doing all that can be done. I can't say enough good things about the fire fighters and Forest Service. A big Thank You.

From the look of the FS fire map the whole N.Fork Drainage between Hobo Gulch and Grizzly Creek is in flames.

Waiting for word of the fate of our loved Morrison Cabin on the N.Fork Trinity River. It is a mile and a half below Jorstad Cabin and a couple of miles above Rattlesnake Creek.

From the last info given, it sounds like the east line of the Pigeon held, judging from the containment which jumped way up.
The info given in the text updates is great, just wish they (Inciweb) would keep the maps updated. I checked at the airport, and that map is the same Sep 14th that is on the web.

I have a couple dredges on the East fork of the North fork that I'm concerned about. It's nerve racking seeing that fire line getting closer everytime they update the map. I'm afraid I'm not going to like the next update. However,
thanks to this site and inciweb, updates are a lot quicker then they used to be.

well seems like the whole place is ablaze..just got word a fire started in Hayfork. After 2 weeks I'm ready to go home but the wind just keeps everyone at bay. The containment is jumping back and forth from hour to hour it seems. I'm glad no structures have gone I worried about all the old buidings in Helena. Hopefully they will make it. Everyone don't inhale!

Dear Trinity Cam,
You do a great job keeping us informed about the fires. I have received one map since these fires started. We now have another fire camp in Denny, and still no information as to what is going on.
So, Please keep it coming. The fire fighters are doing a great job, but they need to SLOW DOWN on these county roads-they drive way too fast. Thank you

Is this BLOG in use for current lightning strike fires?

I would like to see some current blogs too. The smoke is real bad in Salyer but there is a slight breeze stirring, maybe a chance to get out for a while.

Just a curious observation, trinity county(and other 'poor/small areas) have to wait for supression resources if Big Sur or Napa are burning. It happen in 1978, fires of the century, 2003 megram/onion, and now.
